Disney Drabbles 02

al_agrabah: drabbles
As a note, I have actually written a bit for my self-stylized NaNoWriMo; it's more a question of whether I post it as I write it, or just wait until the entire story is written...

An old "Aladdin" one based partially on an episode from the series where Iago makes a new wishing friend.

Aladdin: present

6:47; WC: 118

It was their anniversary. Normally Aladdin tried to think of something clever to get Jasmine, something unusual enough that she would never forgot – after all that seemed to be the best trick of it. Not that he thought that way about it, he amended hurriedly to himself. But then of course…

Grumbling, the streetrat rubbed vigorously at his hair. The corners of his mouth followed the lines of his eyes; what stood before him was certainly not what he had had in mind. But then Genie’s excessive grinning and persistent words of help had not made matters any easier…

He wondered absently what Jasmine would think, and tried, rather unsuccessfully, to banish the plummeting feeling of his confidence…

6:58 end [time unknown] ended on another day

A TLK one that's very short, but it's word count inspired me to the second one today...

The Lion King: “sailing day”

4:40; WC: 101

            “Uh, Pumbaa…”

Timon let the words drawl from his mouth, bouncing the wet, humid air with dubious precision.

            “Yah?”

The warthog peered over at the swaying meerkat, clinging with persistent ferocity to the side of the rocking wooden tub.

            “Stop rocking the floating tree-piece!”

“But Timon, I think it’s called a boat—“

“Don’t tell me what it is, you mook! We’re going to sink!”

“Timon, it was your idea to follow the water bug out here…”

            “Don’t remind me…”

The meerkat’s voice was drowned out in another surge of salt water, rinsing both in a damp shower of sea water.

End unknown

101 Dalmatians: “for good”

6:58 pm; WC: 288

The weary evening trickled her dark velvety shadows over the rolling farmlands. Rustling whispers danced across the fields, woven irregularly among an old stone fence, allowing a quiet whimper to breech the dying light as it descended into the west.

Nuzzling the dark spotted neck beside him, Pongo sniffed carefully at Perdita’s muzzle, giving a quick lick.

“Is something the matter?”

“Oh, Pongo I was only remembering. It has been nearly a year since our pups were taken…”

“But Perdita, we found them.”

“We did much more than that, Pongo.”

Lifting his head, her black dotted mate cocked his head, ears flopping gently as he did. Following his lead, Perdita answered calmly to the quiet question in Pongo’s eyes, “Of course we saved our babies, Pongo, but you see, we found so much more. We have so much more than we did before. More love than we ever could have imagined, or may have been possible for us to experience, with all the love all our new puppies have given us.”

Giving him a quick lick, Perdita barked softly, “I was only remembering how horrid it was too lose our first fifteen, but in losing them, we gained more than we could ever have imagined. And now I know we are safer than we were.”

“You couldn’t bear if anything happened to them…any of the pups I mean.”

“No…” Perdita’s head dropped, nose scurrying in the dry summer grass before she caught Pongo’s gaze, teeth bared slightly with the slender streak of uncompromising spirit that had drawn him to her the moment he had seen her from his pet’s window.

“But we would find them, if anyone dared to take them from us.”

“I know, Perdita. I know.”

#2
Amused me & I thought the dialogue was good. The opening was catchy.
#1
Took me awhile to remember who Iago's "wishing friend" was. >.> Pretty good. Not much to say about this one except
Normally Aladdin tried to think of something clever to get Jasmine, something unusual enough that she would never forgot – after all that seemed to be the best trick of it.
would almost make me think of something Matt would think involving Jas S-R (toys). Dunno of course since they're not mine.

I think #2 was my favorite. Short, amusing, catchy and easily understandable plot. #3 I just loved the sentimental & the dog affections & the opening with the night was my FAVORITE.
Nothing editorial to add.

Thanks. I'm glad #2 had good dialogue; I hoped it would sound "in-character" for them both. I almost didn't put #1 up, just because it was finished off-center (instead of at the same day I started it) so meh...to it.

The comment about Matt to Jas R. (I call her that cause it's shorter and easier to type than R-S all the time) made my mind spazz in a non-commental kind of way. O.o

I'm glad you liked #2 so much; I can't recall where the idea came from other than the prompt title (which came from a OP song that was playing when I sat down to write it...mmm). I thought you'd like #3.

I hope the rest of your day turned out well, despite how difficult we were. Love you.

Robin McKinley's Author Notes from Beauty

“If you’re a storyteller, your own life streams through you, onto the page, mixed up with the life the story itself brings; you cannot, in any useful or genuine way, separate the two. The thing that tells me when one of the pictures in my head or phrases in my ear is a story, and not a mere afternoon’s distraction, is its life, its strength, its vitality. If you were picking up stones in the dark, you would know when you picked up a puppy instead. It’s warm; it wriggles; it’s alive” (McKinley 305).
